Logarska dolina – Solčavsko 3 days / 2 nights
The Logarska dolina – Solčavsko region is an area that attracts visitors with its natural beauty, but has much more to offer. The Logar Valley, one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in Europe, is linked to the north by the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The Solčava region is a geographically rounded area on the border between Slovenia and Austria, in the Upper Savinja Valley, in the lap of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Mountains. The area has been recognised as a European Destination of Excellence – EDEN – for its unique way of combining nature conservation with local life and the curiosity of visitors from all over the world.
The area is characterised by three Alpine valleys: the Logar Valley, the Robanov Angle and the Matkov Angle. Logarska dolina and Robanov kot are protected as landscape parks.
Visitors are also attracted by many other attractions, such as: Potočka zijalka – an archaeological site dating back to prehistoric times, the Rinka waterfall – one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia, the Middle Triassic fossils – one of only three Middle Triassic vertebrate fossil sites in the world, the great biodiversity, one of the largest farms in the entire Alpine region, the Church of Our Lady of the Snows in Solčava, the Rinka Centre – a multifunctional centre for the sustainable development of the Solčava region, and an excellent starting point for a whole range of hiking tours and other outdoor activities.
The 3-day package includes easier tours with spectacular views and unforgettable experiences.
Difficulty: the hikes are easy, but suitable hiking clothing and footwear are required.
The programme’s viability is assured from 27. 30. October.
- DAY: Rinka Centre, Logar Valley Trail (4h) – Okrešelj (2h)
On arrival at the destination, you can watch a short presentation film and a permanent exhibition about Solčavsko at the Rinka Centre. You can also get all the information you need about the programme here.
A walk along the Natural-Ethnographic Trail through the Logar Valley will take you through interesting parts of the Landscape Park, with a gentle climb to the Rinka Waterfall. Along the way, you can discover the heritage of forestry, charcoal-making and farming in this remote mountain corner. You will learn about the flora and fauna of the Logarska dolina Landscape Park and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
Past the waterfall, you can also climb to the botanically interesting Okrešelj glacial crater.
The Logar Valley Trail takes 2 hours to walk from the start of the valley to the Rinka Waterfall, the same time it takes to walk back. You can shorten the walk by starting at one of the restaurants in the valley.
The route from the Rinka waterfall to the mountain hut at Okrešl and back takes 2 hours without a stop at the hut.
Dinner and overnight at a selected tourist accommodation.DAY 2: Logarska dolina – Klemenča jama – Strelovec – Robanov kot (5-6 h)
After a home-cooked breakfast, you will set off from the Logarska dolina valley on an easy hiking tour to the hut at Klemenča jama (1h) and on past the thickest larch tree in Slovenia to the top of the ridge between the two landscape parks of the Logarska dolina valley and Roban’s Corner. The view from the top of Strelovec is enchanting: surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, you can admire the valleys, large mountain farms and hamlets of the Solčavský region as if in the palm of your hand.
Here and there, the chiming of bells or the sight of the friendly four-legged guests of the summer mountain pastures alert you to the proximity of sheep of the indigenous Lake-Solčava breed.
From the top, the trail will lead you down towards the farms that have persisted for centuries on the slopes above the Robanov kot valley.
From the valley, you will be transported back to the Logar Valley or to your chosen accommodation, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest.DAY 3: Podolševa – Potočka zijalka – Olševa – Podolševa (4-5 h)
The hike up Mount Olševo has two strong highlights: in addition to the spectacular views of the backdrop of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the wider area of the Eastern Alps, the archaeological discoveries of the presence of humans thirty thousand years ago are also impressive. The world’s oldest sewing machine, numerous tools of Cro-Magnon hunters, flutes, skeletons of cave bears and other animals have been found in the underground cave Potočki zijalki.
The path leads from the farms and the church of Sv. Duha in the hamlet of Podolševa along the Solčava Panoramic Road, through the forest and partly vegetated rocky slope past Potočka zijalka to the top of Olševa. From the top, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Slovenian and Austrian Alps, and in good weather, you can see as far as Triglav and the Grossglockner.Price: 125 €
