Solčava, the beginning of the story
The Solčava Panoramic Route starts in Solčava, an ancient mountain village, where the hardy lords of the high mountain farms gathered in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, which already has a Romanesque foundation, to offer intercessions to the famous Our Lady of Solčava, a Gothic statue dating from the middle of the 13th century. Legend has it that it was Mary who moved the wall, which was built in one day, to the spot where the church stands today – knowing that the flood would be caused by the dragon Lintver, who once lived in the lake where the Mother’s Corner is today.
Solčava, an ancient village at the edge of the valley
Solčava is a small Alpine village set in the upper Savinja Valley, between the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Mountains. The village is the beginning and the end of the Solčava Panoramic Route, which gave the area its name – Solčava.
The village, with its distinctive square architecture, reflects the character of Solčava, which was awarded the title “European Destination of Excellence (EDEN)” in 2009. Solčava is also the centre of the municipality of the same name.

The Solčava region consists of the village of Solčava and the village of Podolševa, as well as three parallel Alpine valleys that have been transformed by glaciers and are among the most beautiful in the entire Alpine region. These are the most recognisable and most often depicted Logar Valley and the lesser known, but no less remarkable and unique valleys of Robanov kot and Matkov kot. The Logarska dolina and Robanov kot are specially protected and declared a landscape park due to their exceptional nature, and together with Natura 2000, the protected nature area accounts for 80% of the area of the Solčava region.
