A landscape park is an area where people and nature have been connected over time.
It is protected for its natural value, landscape, and opportunities for recreation. A landscape park is classified under category 5 of the internationally valid IUCN classification. It comprises an area protected primarily for the conservation of outstanding natural phenomena, for the conservation of the landscape and for recreation.
Natural and cultural value
The Robanov kot Landscape Park is an Alpine glacial valley, with a 5 km long and up to 400 m wide valley floor from the crater below Ojstrica to the outflow of the Bela stream into the Savinja. The valley floor is filled with rubble, gravel and moraine, and the slopes rise steeply to the peaks of Strelovec, Krofička, Ojstrica, Molička planina, Veliki vrh, Poljske virginice and Križevnik. The vast forests, sharp mountain peaks, torrential streams, the diversity of flora and fauna and the harmonious landscape give Robanov kot its outstanding natural and cultural value.
A large part of the landscape park is important for the conservation of Europe’s threatened species and their habitats, and is therefore part of the European Natura 2000 ecological network.
Homesteads of Robanov kot
Homesteads that have coexisted with nature for centuries have adapted in their own way, which is evident from the first glance. Attentive visitors will find many interesting and telling details on the farms.
The Bevšek homestead bears witness to life in the past with an interesting outbuilding with frescoes, a plague marker, an old sawmill and a blacksmith’s shop.
The Bevšek Ošep Tourist Farm offers guests a peaceful way to spend their free time and good home-cooked food.
The Pečovnik – Ošep Tourist Farm offers apartments for visitors and a good homemade breakfast.
The Govc-Vršnik Tourist Farm is known for its excellent food and beautiful surroundings. A stay here always seems too short.
Today, Roban Farm is mainly a cattle breeding and forestry area. The Roban farm has always been known for beekeeping, hunting and mountain grazing. They still maintain the tradition of both working on the shepherd’s farm and playing the zither. In summer, the pasture is a popular destination for hikers, and mountaineers continuing on their way to Korošica, Ojstrica or other peaks of the Savinja Alps can also enjoy a meal here.
From Roban, the road rises above the valley to three more farms, Vršnik, Havdej and Knez. The farmers here are mainly involved in livestock farming and forestry. On the mountain pastures you can see flocks of sheep of the famous and highly valued Solčava-Lake breed. Woollen and felted products are also becoming increasingly popular among visitors.
