Alpine glacial valley
Matkov kot is a small valley, 5 km long, which lies between the Logar Valley and the Austrian border, which was established only after the First World War, in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
Nature, tranquillity and a sense of adventure
It is the smallest valley in the Solčava region and lies slightly away from the main roads. This quiet valley takes its name from the (great) farm Matk on its slope – there are four mountain farms in Matkov kot.
A few centuries ago, legend has it, there was a glacial lake in the Matkov kot. The water was held back by a natural dam, which is said to have collapsed and the lake drained out of the Matkov kot. The stream flowing through the valley is still called Jezera, a reminder of the valley’s long past.
