From 11 to 13 September 2026, the picturesque village of Solčava will once again celebrate its rich shepherding heritage, wool craftsmanship, and local traditions at the 15th Bicka Sheep Wool Festival.
This unique three-day event brings together artisans, shepherds, local producers, and visitors who wish to experience the authentic culture of the Solčavsko region. Through exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, guided activities, local cuisine, and live music, the festival showcases the importance of sheep farming and wool processing as part of the area’s living heritage.
The festival begins on Friday, 11 September, with a guided shepherd’s hike to the mountain pastures, followed by the opening of the exhibition “Heart – Love and Heritage” at Center Rinka. The day concludes with a concert by the musical group TILIA in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows.
On Saturday, visitors can explore local artists’ studios and wool workshops, discover traditional felting techniques, learn about the indigenous Solčava sheep breed, and enjoy various activities connected to nature, crafts, and local traditions.
The main festival day takes place on Sunday, 13 September, at the Solčava event grounds. Visitors can browse the wool products market, taste local culinary specialties, watch live sheep shearing demonstrations, participate in traditional shepherd games, and enjoy a varied programme for all generations. Children’s workshops, folk performances, a charity raffle and auction, and live music will provide entertainment throughout the day. The festival will conclude with a festive celebration featuring the popular ensemble Hmelbojsi.
