As part of the Global Green Destinations Days online conference, a list of the Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories has been published. The conference brings together leading international experts in the field of sustainable tourism, as well as destination and national tourism organisations. Destination Logarska dolina Solčavsko convinced the international jury with its “Tastes of home” story, its efforts to shorten supply chains and promote local food. Rinka Centre employees also follow sustainable business principles
At the Rinka Centre, we follow the principles of the Green Office https://www.slovenia.info/sl/poslovne-strani/zelena-shema-slovenskega-turizma/zelena-pisarna. We avoid using single-use plastics, drink tap water and use jugs and glasses, take our snacks in the next pub (we don’t use food delivery because of packaging waste), separate our waste, use returnable drinks at events, and use reusable plates and cutlery, we take part in cleaning campaigns in our town, we do not print everything, we use waste paper, we dispose of batteries in the designated containers, we do not air-condition our premises in summer, we do not switch on all lights unless there is a need to do so, the premises are equipped with energy-saving light bulbs. We mostly walk, cycle or use electric scooters to get to work, and work from home when there are no visitors.
IDENTIFY NON-NATIVE SPECIES AND TAKE ACTION – LIFE ARTEMIS
LIFE ARTEMIS PROJECT
The Slovenian Forestry Institute, together with project partners, implemented the LIFE ARTEMIS project from 2016 to 2020. The main objective of LIFE ARTEMIS is to contribute to reducing the negative impacts of invasive non-native species on biodiversity through increased public awareness and the establishment of an effective Early Warning and Rapid Response System (EWRS) for non-native species in forest areas. LIFE ARTEMIS is a communication project and includes a number of activities to raise awareness on non-native species among different target groups, mainly professional foresters, forest owners, environmentally conscious adult citizens and schoolchildren aged 10-18.
If we identify non-native species, we can take timely action. The project also provides on how to organise non-native species removal campaignshttps://www.tujerodne-vrste.info/tujerodnivedez/napotki-akcije/
