In 2024, the Municipality of Solčava has impressed both local and European experts with its holistic approach and the involvement of different groups of inhabitants – from children to pensioners, including tourists. Solčava was awarded the title of Most Active Small Municipality 2024 in a national competition organised by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy as part of the European Mobility Week (EMW).
But it was not only on home soil that Solčava stood out – the European Commission also recognised its innovation and community cohesion. Solčava was the first to be awarded the new “Special mention” category and was presented as an example of good practice at the official award ceremony in Brussels. Mayor Katarina Prelesnik and EMW Coordinator Nina Brdar Plesnik were invited to the main European event where they proudly presented the municipality’s name to the wider European public.
In an environment such as the Logar Valley – Solčava region, where nature also shapes transport challenges, sustainable transport is even more important. The limited number of parking spaces and the rugged terrain dictate the need for efficient public transport, encouraging walking, cycling and shared transport.
European Mobility Week, which takes place every year from 16 to 22 September, is a great opportunity to raise awareness, network and take concrete steps towards a greener future.
We invite you to join us again in September 2025 for a wide range of ETM events and activities. By working together, we can reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and the living environment – while taking care of our health and well-being. Let’s choose sustainable mobility because nature is not just a backdrop – it is a way of life.
