In the heart of the Logar Valley, a story is unfolding that transcends local boundaries and is making waves on the international stage. In recent months, Hotel Plesnik has received several prestigious awards that underscore its commitment to sustainability, quality, and unique experiences in unspoiled nature.
Hotel Plesnik is the recipient of the Meetings Star Award 2025/2026 in the category “Most Sustainable Conference Hotels in Slovenia.”
The award reflects a long-term commitment to sustainability, thoughtful hospitality, and meetings shaped by nature. In the tranquility of the Logarska Valley, the business world finds a different rhythm. More focused. More mindful. More connected.
Hotel Plesnik has been included on the prestigious list of the 100 Best Places in the World for 2026 (The World’s Greatest Places 2026), published by the global media brand TIME.
The list, compiled based on nominations from an international network of collaborators and submissions, highlights exceptional destinations to visit and stay at around the world. This year, special attention was given to places that offer new and exciting experiences.
At Hotel Plesnik, being included on the list is seen primarily as a confirmation of their ongoing efforts to develop a top-tier offering in the pristine Logar Valley. “We accept this recognition with deep gratitude and sincere humility. At the same time, we feel a great sense of responsibility—to respectfully preserve, develop, and enhance the heritage entrusted to us in the future as well,” emphasizes Urška Kolar, the hotel’s director.
The philosophy of Hotel Plesnik is rooted in the intertwining of pristine nature, sustainability, well-being, tradition, and exceptional cuisine, which in recent years has become one of the key pillars of its identity.
Six Centuries of Tradition
The story of the Plesnik family in the Logar Valley dates back to 1426, when their ancestors first settled in the valley. They opened their first hotel in 1932, and it was reborn in a renovated form in 1995 under the leadership of the current owner, Martina Plesnik. Through her dedication, she has for decades made a significant contribution to preserving the unspoiled nature and authentic identity of the Logar Valley, and her hotel stands as one of the most recognizable symbols of this glacial valley.
A New Culinary Story
In collaboration with legendary chef Janez Bratovž and under the creative leadership of head chef Tom Čopar, the culinary story of Hotel Plesnik has been transformed over the past two years. First, they revamped the hotel restaurant’s offerings with a new à la carte menu, and then opened the fine-dining Plesnik Restaurant, which features seasonal tasting menus. The result is a cuisine that blends the traditions of Grandma Marija Plesnik, local valley producers, and modern techniques, yet always remains true to the land from which it grows. Every dish is a tribute to the nature of the Logar Valley—its flavors, seasons, micro-locations, and rhythms—which Tom and Janez bring to the plate every day with a great deal of respect and creativity.
This new culinary story has quickly attracted international attention as well. The Plesnik Hotel restaurant was already included on the Michelin Selected list last year and also received a Michelin Green Star, the highest culinary recognition for sustainable restaurant practices and an environmentally responsible approach to gastronomy. It was also listed for the first time in the prestigious international Falstaff Restaurant Guide 2025, and with the exceptional quality of its cuisine, ambiance, service, and wine selection, it has placed itself alongside the culinary elite of the wider Alpine region. Plesnik’s sustainable culinary story was also recognized in a high-profile feature by the global gastronomic platform 50 Best Discovery.
Sustainability as an Everyday Practice
Sustainability is the guiding principle at Hotel Plesnik. It is based on respect for nature, the preservation of cultural heritage, and close cooperation with local suppliers, agritourism farms, and producers from the Upper Savinja Valley, which enables the long-term preservation of the valley’s ecosystem and supports the local community.
Unique experiences
In recent years, Plesnik has devoted significant attention to designing, co-creating, and collaborating with local providers in the field of experiential activities. They offer guests thoughtfully curated programs that blend nature, tradition, well-being, and the authentic flavors of the valley—from relaxation programs, yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic approaches to carefully crafted unique experiences for exploring nature and herbs, creative workshops, sensory indulgences, and tasting and cooking local delicacies. All are based on local knowledge, sustainable practices, and close ties to the community. This May, they will add a new experience to their offerings: the Shepherd’s Trail, created in collaboration with local providers, the community, and with the support of the European ST3ER project.
A Look to the Future
The hotel views its inclusion on TIME’s prestigious list as further motivation for the future, as it is constantly on the verge of new investments and renovations. They recently completed a complete renovation of the kitchen, which will enable the further development of their top-notch culinary offerings, and all future efforts will be focused on providing a holistic retreat in the unspoiled nature of the Logar Valley.
